A major concern for the older client and their families is how they will be able to pay for any form of long-term care should it be necessary. I am frequently asked what the position is in relation to the family home with many worrying they will be unable to pass on their assets to their children on death as their assets have been exhausted funding care. Another common question is what happens if the funds run out.

The funding structure

The funding structure is complex. However, the vast majority of older people will be entitled to some element of public funding when entering a care home or staying in their own home, though the extent of that funding will vary from person to person and will further vary over time.
